Most students join the course hoping they'll eventually feel comfortable using SketchUp.

What they don't expect is how much they're able to create by the end.

The projects below are a collection of student work completed as part of the Live and On-Demand SketchUp courses. They represent the progress that can happen when complex concepts are broken down into manageable steps and applied to real-world design projects.

the course model

One of my favourite moments as an instructor is seeing students realize what they're capable of creating in just 10 weeks.

Throughout the SketchUp course, students work on the same main floor project from Module 1 through Module 10. As new tools and techniques are introduced, they apply them directly to the model, building their skills one step at a time.

Many students begin the course with little to no SketchUp experience and are convinced they'll never be able to create detailed 3D models. By the end of the course, they're often surprised by how much they've accomplished and how comfortable they feel working in SketchUp.

the final project

The final project is where everything comes together.

Students are provided with the same office floor plan and challenged to complete a design independently using the skills they've learned throughout the course. While smaller in scope than the main course project, it requires them to think through the entire design process and apply many of the tools, workflows, and techniques covered during the training.

For many students, this assignment is a turning point. It's often the first time they realize they can take a project from a blank floor plan to a fully developed 3D design on their own.
