MEET COURTNEY

Hi!

I'm Courtney, the owner of Stella Noir, an interior design studio serving clients in Montreal, Quebec and Columbus, Ohio.

With nearly 20 years of experience in residential renovations and interior design, I’m also a Certified Kitchen Designer with the National Kitchen & Bath Association.

In 2020, I transitioned to using SketchUp and LayOut exclusively for all my design projects. Before making the switch, I used multiple CAD-based programs for floor plans and 3D modeling. While those programs were effective, they were also cost-prohibitive, led to duplication of work in the design process, and lacked the extensive customization that SketchUp and LayOut offer.

I’m so excited to collaborate with Maison Juniper to help you harness the full potential of LayOut. Let’s take your design skills to the next level together!

FAQ

Yes, since SketchUp and LayOut work seamlessly together, a solid understanding of SketchUp is essential for this course.

In addition to basic modeling skills, you’ll need to be familiar with:

  • Section Planes to create floor plans, elevations, and sectional views.
  • Scenes setup, using both Perspective and Parallel Projection modes.
  • Model Organization with Tags and the Outliner.
  • Styles customization for line weights and visual effects.

If you need to sharpen your SketchUp skills first, all these features are covered in our SketchUp for Beginners Course.

Yes! Just like SketchUp, LayOut is designed to be very user-friendly and intuitive.

Plus, this course is structured with very small class sizes allowing us to tailor the lessons to the capabilities of the students.

However, you must have some basic computer knowledge. This includes being able to download software, downloading files and using a mouse or trackpad.

All students will need a license to SketchUp Pro (which also comes with LayOut), a device with camera and mic, and a stable internet connection. You may want to use two screens! One for the live classes and one to use the software.

The course will be taught on a Mac, however the instructor will point out all of the differences for PC as each topic gets explained. The key differences lie in the menu bars and shortcut keys, but all functions are primarily the same for both.

Prepare to set aside two hours a week for five weeks, plus weekly assignments to sharpen your skills.

Yes! All the lessons will be recorded and available in the course platform if you have to miss one.

Once the course begins, you'll gain access to an exclusive community page where you can post your questions, and I'll provide answers before the next lesson.

Once enrolled, you’ll have lifetime access to the course materials. This means you can revisit lessons, templates, and resources whenever you need, even after completing the course.

LayOut is part of the SketchUp Pro package. Once you've purchased a subscription to SketchUp Pro, you'll automatically have access through your Trimble account to download LayOut.

Yes, upon completing the course, you’ll receive a certificate of completion. This is a great way to showcase your new skills to clients, employers, or colleagues.

Unfortunately, you cannot get a preview of the course. However, please feel free to contact me with any questions about this course.

These things happen, we get it. You can cancel your purchase up to 14 days before the course begins. After that, refunds will no longer be possible.
